Gordon Willard, executive director of the Connecticut Humane Society (CHS), plans to retire this winter after leading the organization for the last decade.
The Newington-based animal welfare organization, which operates three animal shelters, announced Monday Gordon will retire in Feb. 2020.
Its board of directors has launched a nationwide search for his replacement.
“CHS is a vibrant organization with a talented and effective professional staff, dedicated and compassionate volunteers, and strong community support, due in large part to Gordon’s leadership,” said board President Ellen Sharon.
Founded in the late 19th century, the not-for-profit organization has locations in Newington, Westport and Waterford that serve more than 10,000 pets a year.
CHS does not receive government funding and is not affiliated with any national animal welfare group, according to its website. Its funding and support is generated by individual donors and volunteers.
The organization recorded revenue of more than $10.7 million in fiscal year 2017, according to nonprofit database Guidestar.
