CT housing permits up 25 percent in Nov.

Connecticut building commissioners issued 272 housing permits in November, an increase of 25 percent of the same month last year, according to the state Department of Economic and Community Development.

For the first 11 months of 2013, permits are up 3.5 percent over the same period in 2012 at 3,741. October was the strongest month of 2013 so far, with 517 permits issued.

So far this year, permits for single family dwellings have increased by 407, while permits for multifamily structures with five or more units are down by 296.

The Census data used in the survey doesn’t account for the entire state. Instead, it tracks permit activity in 128 municipalities.
