New home construction in Connecticut got a slight boost in August, as new housing permits issued during the month increased by 6 percent, state figures show.
Connecticut municipalities issued 230 new housing permits in August, compared to 217 in August 2009.
And, new, revised data from the Census Bureau shows that new home construction was even more active in April than previously thought. The census revised upward April housing permits from 310 to 763, because 453 permits were not reported in time for the April release.Â
With the new housing units authorized in August and the revised April numbers, the year-to-date total reached 2,305 units, putting Connecticut ahead of last year’s new home construction pace by nearly 10 percent, according to data released Tuesday by the state Department of Economic and Community Development.
Prior to the revised April numbers Connecticut had been trailing the 2009 pace for new housing permits. Through August 2009, 2,097 new permits were authorized.
Permits are issued for single-family houses, condominiums and apartment units.
The data from DECD includes housing permits issued from 128 of the 169 municipalities in Connecticut.
