New home construction in Connecticut continued to decline in May, as new housing permits issued during the month fell by 12 percent, state figures show.
Connecticut municipalities issued 201 new housing permits in May, compared to 229 in the year-ago period.
With the new housing units authorized in May, the year-to-date total reached 859 units, putting Connecticut well behind last year’s new home construction pace by 45 percent, when 1,550 permits were issued, according to data released Thursday by the state Department of Economic and Community Development.
Permits are issued for single-family houses, condominiums and apartment units.
The data from DECD includes housing permits issued from 128 of the 169 municipalities in Connecticut.
