The Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection on Tuesday honored 16 businesses and residents throughout the state with its GreenCircle awards, recognizing achievements in sustainability.
DEEP launched the GreenCircle awards 16 years ago and has honored nearly 1,100 businesses, schools, organizations, and individuals for their efforts.
This year’s winners are:
- Pratt & Whitney of East Hartford for its volunteer landscaping efforts at schools,
- Windsor Marketing Group of Suffield for energy efficiency and recycling programs,
- ESPN in Bristol for trail restoration, energy efficiency efforts, and athletic shoe recycling,
- Firestone Building Products in Bristol for its 115,211 kilowatt hour solar array,
- Boehringer Ingelheim of Ridgefield for its energy conservation and recycling programs,
- Robert Silvestri of Hamden for producing the publication “Air Waves” about air quality,
- The Orchards at Southington for its food waste recovery program,
- Cartus Conservation Committee in Danbury for promoting ride-sharing,
- Chapman Manufacturing in Durham for its wildlife and grounds management,
- Aptar of Stratford for energy efficiency efforts at its new warehouse,
- Aptar of Torrington for using energy efficient cooling systems,
- Coilplus of Waterbury for energy efficiency and recycling programs,
- Philson Anodizing of Watertown for carbon-emission reduction efforts,
- Dan and Sam Kruger of Orange for their anti-cigarette litter campaign,
- Dave Steinmetz of Woodbridge for his anti-cigarette litter campaign.
