The average premium increase for a Connecticut homeowner’s insurance policy after filing one claim is 20.6 percent, the second highest in the country, according to InsuranceQuotes.com.
The insurance purchasing portal hired Quadrant Information Services to conduct the ranking, which used data from the six largest carriers in each state.
Connecticut’s average premium increase was second only to Minnesota’s 21.2 percent.
“Homeowners should think very carefully about whether or not to make a claim,” Laura Adams, a senior insurance analyst with InsuranceQuotes, said in a statement. “Let’s say you have a $1,000 deductible and the claim is going to lead to a 20 percent rate hike; it’s probably not worth making a modest-sized claim.”
