CT homebuilding permits up 14% in January

New housing construction in Connecticut rose by nearly 14% in January compared to their year-ago level, new Census data shows.

There were 224 single- and multifamily permits issued last month in 104 towns and cities, up from 197 in Jan. 2019, according to the state Department of Economic and Community Development (DECD), citing U.S. Census Bureau data. 

Among communities sampled, the most permits were issued last month in Granby (26 permits issued), Milford (20) and New Haven (16).

New housing construction, on a year-over-year basis, has now increased in six consecutive months.

In 2019, there were 5,097 new permits issued, up 33.7% from 3,812 permits issued in 2018. That marked Connecticut’s largest number of permits issued since 2015, data shows.
