CT home sales rise significantly

Connecticut home sales and prices jumped significantly in April, according to figures released today, but condominium and townhouse prices are dropping.

Connecticut Realtors reported single-family residential home sales in Connecticut increased 17.8 percent to 2,702 in April 2016 compared to 2,294 in April 2015. The median sales price of $248,000 reflects a 4.2 percent increase from this period last year. Median indicates that half the homes sold for more and half for less.

Townhouses and condominium sales in Connecticut increased 18 percent to 676 in April 2016 compared to 573 in April 2015, but the median sales price fell 3.1 percent to $155,500, from $159,900 in the year-ago period.

Statistics released by the National Association of Realtors indicate total home sales nationwide (includes single-family homes, townhomes, condominiums and co-ops) increased 6 percent in April, with a median national home sales price of $232,500. Regionally, Northeast home sales increased 17.5 percent in that same time period; with a median sales price of $263,600.

Connecticut Realtors said strong April sales numbers show the potential for a sustained strong spring sales season that could remain robust through the fall.
