CT home price decline worst in nation

Connecticut saw the most negative monthly movement in the home price index for monthly sales nationwide. Three of the state’s metropolitan areas were also among the top 10 worst performers.

According to the report issued today by Black Knight Financial Services Inc., Connecticut once again saw the most negative movement among the states in October, with home prices falling by 0.6 percent month-over-month. Nationwide, home prices increased 0.2 percent month-over-month.

Bridgeport was the worst performing metropolitan area in the state (and second nationwide) with a 0.8 percent drop in home prices in October month-over-month. Norwich was third nationwide with a 0.7 percent drop. Hartford was tied for fifth nationwide with a 0.5 percent drop.

New York state saw the largest month-over-month change at 1.1 percent. New York City was the best performing metropolitan area nationally with a 1.2 percent jump in real estate prices.

Connecticut home prices were not broken down. Nationally, at $254,000, the U.S. home price index is 5.3 percent off June 2006 peak of $268,000 and up 26.9 percent from the market’s bottom.
