The Connecticut Historical Society is making improvements to its 1 Elizabeth St. building in Hartford’s West End, a restoration project for which it has gotten a $329,792 grant from the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving.
The society said Tuesday the grant will provide partial funds to replace the original 1928 boiler and heating system, restore the windows, reroof and repair the original carriage porch, and renovate the public restrooms.
The original portion of the building was built in 1928 for Hartford industrialist and inventor Curtis Veeder, co-founder of the Veeder-Root Co.
