The state Supreme Court has reversed a $764,000 damage award against tractor maker Deere & Co., claiming the trial judge erred in favor of insurer MetLife.
The court ruled recently in the appeal of a 2008 trial in which MetLife’s property/casualty unit argued against a claim an unspecified malfunction of a Deere tractor caused a house fire.
The state High Court ruled that the evidence presented was speculative and that the judge in the case should have directed a verdict for Deere.
“It has been a long fight, but we are pleased that our client prevailed in this case,” Bruce Raymond, Deere’s Glastonbury lawyer, said.
MetLife could not be immediately reached for comment.
