Stamford-based hedge fund Point72 Asset Management, led by billionaire investor and New York Mets owner Steven A. Cohen, has taken a more than 5% ownership stake in Lionsgate Studios Corp., the film and television production company behind the “John Wick” and “Hunger Games” franchises.
In a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission this week, Point72 reported holding 14.67 million shares of Lionsgate Studios’ Class A common stock as of Oct. 31.
That represents about 5.1% of the company’s outstanding shares.
According to Bloomberg, the disclosure indicates Point72 tripled its stake in Lionsgate since June 30, 2025.
The filing classifies the investment as passive under SEC rules, indicating Point72 does not plan to influence management or seek control of the Santa Monica, Calif.-based company, which completed a spinoff earlier this year, separating its studio operations from its Starz streaming business.
Lionsgate Studios, which trades on the New York Stock Exchange, has been cited by analysts and activist investors as a potential consolidation target in an industry where both legacy studios and streaming platforms are prioritising scale and content-library expansion, according to published reports.
Point72 manages about $41.5 billion in assets across public equities, private investments and venture capital. The company’s Stamford headquarters is at 72 Cumming Point Road, but it also has offices in New York, Chicago, Miami, San Francisco, Seattle, Toronto and West Palm Beach, Florida, according to its website
