Between 2005 and 2011, Connecticut families with an unemployed parent increased by 65 percent, according to a new report from the U.S. Census Bureau.
That increase was the fourth-highest in the country behind Florida, Hawaii and Nevada, which saw jumps of 93 percent, 95 percent and 148 percent, respectively.
The national increase over that period was 32.5 percent, with 3.2 million families having an unemployed parent as of 2011.
The Census data reflects families with at least one unemployed parent and at least one child under 18.
