Forbes has released its annual rankings of the richest people in America, and five Connecticut billionaires earned positions on the list.
Steve Cohen, who owns the New York Mets and oversees a hedge fund with $35 million in assets under management, Point72 Asset Management, was the wealthiest resident of the Nutmeg State in 2024, according to the Forbes 400.
Cohen ranked 39th in the country with a net worth of $21.3 billion, up $1.5 billion from 2023. Although his wealth grew, he dropped two places in the rankings, from 37th last year.
Connecticut’s second-wealthiest resident was Ray Dalio, founder of the world’s biggest hedge fund firm, Bridgewater Associates.Â
Dalio’s net worth fell from $22 billion in 2023 to $14 billion in 2024, according to Forbes, but his ranking rose from 71st last year to 59th this year.
Todd Boehly was the third-wealthiest Nutmegger, according to the list, with a net worth of $8.5 billion. He is the co-founder of Greenwich-based investment company Eldridge Industries. His net worth rose $2.5 billion over the last year and he ranked 130th.Â
Another Connectican, Bradley Jacobs, tied with Boehly for the 130th-wealthiest spot.
Jacobs, founder, CEO and chairman of XPO Logistics, had a net worth of $8.5 billion this year, more than twice as much as last year’s $3.7 billion.
Meantime, Karen Pritzker, hotel entrepreneur, ranked 167th with a net worth of $7.1 billion, up from $6 billion last year.
Connecticut lost one of its members of the Forbes 400 this year: Vincent McMahon, former chairman and CEO of WWE.
The lowest-ranking billionaires in 2024, tied for 399th place, had net worths of $3.3 billion. Â
As of last year, McMahon’s net worth was $3.1 billion.
The richest person in America was Elon Musk, with a net worth of $244 billion, followed by Jeff Bezos ($197 billion) and Mark Zuckerberg ($181 billion), according to Forbes.
Musk’s net worth declined from $251 billion last year.
