CT has 24th highest gas prices in nation

As gas prices continue to stabilize here and nationally, Connecticut now has the 24th highest gas prices in the nation.

As of Jan. 4, Connecticut residents, on average, are paying $3.19 a gallon for regular gasoline; $3.76 for mid-grade gas; $4.18 for premium gas; and $5.09 for diesel, according to AAA.

That’s down significantly from the 2022 statewide average for gas in Connecticut of $3.97, according to AAA Northeast.

According to AAA Northeast, Connecticut residents are seeing a slight uptick in gas prices as the state incrementally phases in the 25-cent gallon fuel tax a nickel a month through May. While there is a slight uptick, the price is still lower compared to the record prices the state saw throughout 2022.

“2022 will go down as a record year (for gas prices) with a national average of $3.96,” said Fran Mayko, AAA Northeast spokesperson in a release.

Of the state’s six metro regions, gas was cheapest in Greater Hartford, where residents paid, on average, $3.11 for regular gasoline. Gas in Greater Bridgeport is $3.30 a gallon; it’s $3.16 a gallon in New Haven/Meriden; $3.17 a gallon in the New London/Norwich; $3.31 in lower Fairfield County; and $3.22 a gallon for regular in the Windham/Middlesex region.
