CT group assists with new patient-record rules

A nonprofit Connecticut organization is offering to help care providers and others meet new federal guidelines for collecting and securing patient records meant as a first step in creating a national health information exchange.

EHealthConnecticut is one of 60 regional extension centers designated by the federal Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to coordinate with Connecticut health providers in satisfying new patient-record rules aimed at improving care and curbing costs.

The HHS is offering financial incentives through Medicaid and Medicare to those who successfully implement the new standards, officials said.

“… eHealthConnecticut will make available the needed hands-on, field support for eligible health care providers to advance the rapid adoption and use of health IT,” said Angelo Carrabba, M.D., chairman of eHealthConnecticut.
