The U.S. Green Building Council has given Connecticut the Best of Green Schools award of the state’s collaborative effort to promote sustainability education.
The Connecticut Green Leaf Schools Program encourages K-12 schools to create and improve their environmental education, improve the health of students and staff, and reduce the environmental impact of their buildings.
Connecticut was one of 10 awardees, and the only state in the Northeast to receive the honor.
The USGBC is best known for its Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design, or LEED, program for rating the sustainability of buildings, but its Best of Green Schools award to recognize educational programs and individuals for their sustainability strides.
