The Connecticut Green Building Council will honor New Haven drug maker Alexion Pharmaceuticals, Middletown office park Centerpoint Connecticut and 14 other businesses, organizations and individuals for their commitment to sustainability in building.
Alexion will win the Green Advocate Commercial Merit Award for its micro turbine combined heat & power project in Cheshire. Gaylord Hospital will receive the same award for its solar thermal project in Wallingford while Frito Lay, Inc. will receive a similar honor for its Killingly manufacturing facility.
Centerpoint Connecticut will win the CT Green Building Council Commercial Merit Award for its environmentally friendly office park in Middletown.
“It is a great honor to be recognized by the experts in green building,” said Michael Tyre, Centerpoint Connecticut architect and co-developer, in a press release. “This recognition helps to further validate our efforts.”
Nestle Waters will receive a similar commercial honor for its North American headquarters in Stamford.
The University of Connecticut will win the Alexion Pharmaceuticals Award of Excellence for one of its classroom buildings in Storrs.
UConn will also receive the institutional honor award the classroom building. Yale University in New Haven, the U.S. Armed Forces Reserve Center in Middletown and the Inter district Discovery Magnet School in Bridgeport will receive institutional merit awards.
Metro Green Residences in Stamford will win the multifamily residential award while the residential honor and merit award will go to the Granby Farm House, Costigan residence and Nickerson residence.
The Town of Fairfield will receive the advocate municipality award.
Steven Winter, owner of the Norwalk environmental building consultant Steven Winter Associates, Inc. will receive the Green Advocate Individual Honor Award.
