Republican state Sen. Dan Debicella of Shelton has filed paperwork to challenge Democratic Congressman Jim Himes in the 2010 election.
The 34-year-old Debicella kicked off his campaign for southwestern Connecticut’s congressional seat Monday by submitting documents to the secretary of the state’s office.
Debicella joins 24-year-old Will Gregory of New Canaan in the Republican field that will try to unseat Himes, who won his first term last year by beating longtime incumbent Republican Rep. Christopher Shays.
Debicella is an assistant vice president of marketing at The Hartford Financial Services Group Inc. He’s in his second term in legislature and has been leading opposition against majority Democrats‘ plans to raise taxes. (AP)
