CT gets $300K to train homeless Gen X vets

A Connecticut regional job-training agency has gotten $299,670 in federal funds to help young, homeless veterans in Bridgeport and New Haven establish civilian careers, authorities say.

The Workplace Inc. will provide the training to vets referred by Connecticut VA Health Systems, Congressmen Rosa DeLauro and Jim Himes announced.

Contrary to popular belief, many homeless veterans are no longer older, Vietnam era single males but younger men and women – some with families – who served in Iraq and Afghanistan, the congressmen said.

The WorkPlace is among 23 competitively chosen agencies nationwide to get funding through the initiative, officials said.
