The federal government has awarded Connecticut $2 million to support pregnant and parenting teens, the governor says.
Gov. M. Jodi Rell said the money will enable to state to link families to health, education, child care, and other supports that can help brighten the futures of parents and their children. Â
“Unfortunately, many young women drop out of school and lose the opportunity for a more promising life for them and their children,” Rell said. “All of our young people need every chance possible to succeed in the classroom and ultimately in the workplace. This grant will help us to narrow the achievement gap in our school systems and break the cycle of poverty.”
