CT gets $2M for worker training

Connecticut will spend $2 million from two federal funding applications to help the unemployed find work through training programs.

The state received $1.4 million from the Trade Adjustment Assistance grant to retrain workers who lost their jobs to foreign competition. Connecticut will spend another $673,776 in federal funds to help the unemployed find careers with new companies through an on-the-job training program.

Officials at the Connecticut Department of Labor said the state’s CTWorks Centers have a waiting list for people wanting to join on-the-job training programs because of a spike in interest from the unemployed. The federal funds allow the state to expand these programs.

“The popular program is an important collaboration of the state, employers and local training centers to put people back to work,” Gov. M. Jodi Rell said in a statement Friday.
