As many in Connecticut prepare to travel this Memorial Day weekend, average gas prices are at the highest point so far this year, according to AAA.
Earlier this week, the motor club announced that the per-gallon price of regular gasoline in Connecticut had reached a 2016 peak of $2.42. As of Thursday, the average price had inched up to $2.45, according to AAA data that’s updated daily.
That’s up from $2.28 a month ago, but still well down from last year’s Memorial Day, when Connecticut prices averaged $2.86.
That all pales in comparison to July 2008, when prices in some parts of Connecticut were as high as $4.50, according to AAA.
Last Memorial Day, AAA said it responded to nearly 3,400 calls in Greater Hartford, and nearly half of those drivers required a tow.
“Now add soaring temperatures to the mix, and you can be sure there will be no ‘holiday’ this weekend for AAA,” spokeswoman Amy Parmenter said in a statement.
Hartford temperatures this weekend are forecast to reach a high of 93 degrees on Saturday.
