The price of regular unleaded in Connecticut is the highest in the continental United States, surpassing California, according to the AAA Daily Fuel Gauge Report.
Connecticut motorists Tuesday paid an average of $3.82 per gallon, passing California’s $3.79, making the Nutmeg State the priciest fill-up in North America.
Connecticut’s gasoline taxes are among the nation’s highest, and the state requires a more expensive, more environmentally friendly mix of fuel, according to the U.S. Energy Information Agency.
Hawaii motorists still pay the highest of all 50 states, at $4.16 per gallon. South Carolina is the cheapest at $3.17.
Within Connecticut, Greater Hartford had the cheapest prices Tuesday, at $3.79. The Bridgeport area had the highest at $3.91, while the New Haven was at $3.80.
