CT gas companies launch conversion marketing

Connecticut’s three main natural gas distribution companies launched a marketing initiative on Wednesday to encourage customers to convert from fuel oil.

The “Get Connected!” campaign is meant to help businesses, residents, and municipalities to understand the benefits of using natural gas for heating instead of fuel oil. Natural gas currently costs half as much and generates 30 percent fewer greenhouse gases.

Yankee Gas, Connecticut Natural Gas, and Southern Connecticut Gas all stand to benefit greatly from Gov. Dannel Malloy’s $7 billion plan to convert 300,000 customers to natural gas. That represents a 47-63 percent increase in customers for the companies.

The companies estimate a large industrial customer will save $25,000 annually using natural gas over fuel oil, large commercial customers will save $3,300 annually, and homeowners will save $1,800 annually.
