A New York-based group that once operated four Friendly’s restaurants in Connecticut has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization.
J&B Restaurant Partners of Long Island II LLC, which also has restaurants in New York and New Jersey, said it aims to close some of its unprofitable locations and remodel 11 others. It did not identify which locations might close.
J&B once operated Friendly’s in Bridgeport, Darien, Danbury and Southport. As of its bankruptcy filing, it had only the Danbury location remaining, according to a Friendly’s spokeswoman. The company closed the Bridgeport location last year.
J&B said it hopes to exit bankruptcy within six months. During the process, GE Capital is providing debtor-in-possession financing to keep the restaurants open for business, J&B said.
Correction: The original version of this story incorrectly stated that J&B operated more than a dozen Connecticut Friendly’s as of 2013. That information was based on details in a civil lawsuit against J&B, which Friendly’s attorneys say was inaccurate. The story has been amended to reflect the correction.Â
