CT foots $1M to spur colleges’ energy savings

The state is floating a $1 million loan enabling a cluster of Connecticut colleges, among them West Hartford’s University of Hartford and University of St. Joseph, to upgrade the efficiency of their energy systems.

The Clean Energy Finance and Investment Authority (CEFIA) is funding the “Campus Efficiency Now” program promoted by GreenerU Inc., formerly EnergyClimate Solutions Inc., of Waltham, Mass.

According to CEFIA, the five participants in the Connecticut Conference of Independent Colleges will repay the loan over a five-year period with savings generated from their energy improvements.

Mitchell College and Connecticut College, both in New London, and the University of New Haven are also participants.

CEFIA is the quasi-public successor to the former Connecticut Clean Energy Fund, which leverages public and private funds to spur investment in and development of clean energy systems in the state.
