CT firefighters see $319K in fire-safety grants

Stonington firefighters got a $216,154 federal Homeland Security grant to buy a second safety-training trailer, while West Hartford’s fire department will collect $103,200 for safety operations, authorities say.

Stonington’s Old Mystic Fire Department wants to acquire an apparatus bay exhaust ventilation system and a second training trailer for confined-space and technical rescue training, authorities say.

Mystic Fire Chief Ken Richards said the first trailer acquired in 2007 has trained 1,500 firefighters from 31 departments in New London County and Rhode Island.

Congressman Joe Courtney’s office announced the Stonington grant. Offices for Senators Joe Lieberman and Richard Blumenthal and Congressman John Larson announced West Hartford’s.
