CT, feds bank $17M in energy auction

World Energy Solutions, with offices in Cromwell and Enfield, helped 119 federal accounts in Connecticut and four other states obtain $17 million in energy savings through a procurement auction.

World Energy had arranged an auction so the U.S. Government Services Administration could procure the power supply necessary for 119 federal accounts in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island.

The auction solicited 168 bids from eight competitive electricity supply companies, resulting in seven new 36-month contracts that include 7.5 percent power from renewable sources. The contracts are expected to yield more than $5.5 million in annual savings compared to the agencies’ prior agreement.

GSA last had an energy procurement auction in 2011, but that did not include the accounts from Massachusetts, which more than quadrupled the GSA’s load from two years ago.
