CT facilities modified for natural gas pipeline

Spectra Energy Corp. will add new pipe to its Cromwell compressor facility for a proposed expansion of its natural gas pipeline into New Jersey and New York City.

The Connecticut modification comes as the Texas-based Spectra Energy expands its Texas Eastern and Algonquin Gas transmission interstate pipeline system to meet the high demand markets around New York City.

The plan will reduce bottlenecks and allow the region to tap into supplies from multiple sources. A large supply of natural gas in Pennsylvania region is being mined and will reduce the cost of natural gas; but the transmission companies are working to eliminate delivering issues with the new supply.

Spectra has provided service into Connecticut for more than 60 years. During the course of the planning and construction of the expanded pipeline, 5,200 jobs will be created in the host cities.
