Exports from Connecticut companies continue at a record pace in 2010, although the pace slowed in June compared to the previous, pre-recession record set in 2008.
Connecticut exports in 2010 through June were at $7.85 billion, up 16.6 percent from the $6.73 billion in exports from 2009, according to the figures released today from the U.S. Census Bureau.
Although a vast improvement year-to-year, the growth isn’t as phenomenal compared to the all-time high of $15.4 billion set in 2008, before the global recession slowed domestic and foreign trade significantly.
Exports in 2010 are up 4.7 percent from the record year of 2008, but the pace slowed in June since the first five months of the 2010 reports a 6-percent increase over 2008.
Aircraft and spacecraft parts are the biggest export from Connecticut, comprising nearly half of the total from the state.
The U.S. Department of Commerce is pushing the state’s companies to expand their trade with foreign nations to meet President Barack Obama’s goal of doubling U.S. exports within five years. To meet their goal, Connecticut firms must grow their exports 15 percent every year for the next five years.
