A team of Hartford area and Maryland musicians and businessmen are collaborating to raise money for gulf oil spill disaster relief by offering online donors the chance to contribute by purchasing dedicated music from participating artists worldwide.
Farmington musician-inventor Eric Knight and video/web producers Paul Lombardo and Tom Russo, of L&R Productions, announced Wednesday the launch of their Give To The Gulf campaign (www.givetothegulf.org) to raise money to aid Gulf Coast families impacted by the Deepwater Horizon spill that began April 20.
Eleven original songs in Volume 1 can be downloaded via Apple’s iTunes. All proceeds go directly to the United Way, which will coordinate distribution of the relief funds, the group said. More music volumes are planned.
The idea for the online fundraising campaign sprouted three weeks ago, Knight said.
“All over the country people are asking how they can help their fellow Americans in the Gulf,” said Knight, founder of Remarkable Technologies. “We thought it could be as simple as sharing music and downloading a song.”
“The project was an intense collaboration,” Knight said. “We worked tirelessly to find the perfect lyrics, the perfect music, and the perfect sound to capture an anthem that will resonate and inspire people to action.”
