West Hartford consultant Environmental Energy Solutions has challenged Connecticut’s lack of a security plan in its new comprehensive energy strategy program.
The strategy addresses the long-term energy needs for the state ranging from power generation to home heating to transportation, including plans for a $7 billion expansion of the natural gas system. The public comment period on the draft of the strategy closes on Friday.
Joel Gordes, principal of Environmental Energy Solutions, said the strategy needs to address energy security and outline a better energy emergency plan, especially in the wake of three widespread power outages in 15 months.
Gordes said energy security needs to be addressed not only because of weather-related outages but also because of risks of cyber-driven attacks on the security grid.
