CT Energy Fund sponsors $30K green building competition

The Connecticut Energy Efficiency Fund is taking applications for its 2010-2011 Zero Energy Challenge competition where the builder of the most energy-efficient home receives $10,000.

The goal of the competition is to showcase groundbreaking projects in energy efficiencies and reward and promote the developers and builders who use the techniques. Participants in the competition will have their projects and their progress detailed on the Zero Energy Challenge Web site.

The winner of the $10,000 prize will have the lowest aggregate score in four categories of energy efficiency: most affordable project, lowest projected annual operating cost, lowest Home Energy Rating System index and lowest HERS index without renewable technologies. Winners of the individual categories receive $5,000.

The Connecticut Light and Power Company, The United Illuminating Company, Connecticut Natural Gas Corporation, Southern Connecticut Gas Company and Yankee Gas Services Company are all participating in the competition, and homes built for the competition must be in the service area of these utilities.
