CT Efficiency Fund offers HVAC inspection payments

The Connecticut Energy Efficiency Fund launched a new program on Wednesday to pay $500 to ratepayers who have their air conditioning or heat pumps installations inspected.

The Quality Installation and Verification program was established to make sure these systems operate with maximum efficiency. Only customers of Connecticut Light & Power and United Illuminating who use Energy Star equipment are eligible.

As part of the program, natural gas companies Yankee Gas, Southern Connecticut Gas and Connecticut Natural Gas will provide $100 incentives to install or replace a natural gas warm-air system.

Next year, the Efficiency Fund expects to make participation in the program mandatory for all Energy Star-certified homes.

“All too often, the installation of HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning) equipment neglects a total systems approach and does not address proper equipment sizing or duct losses,” said CL&P Operations Supervisor Joseph Swift, in a press release. “Now we’ve developed a program to help solve that problem and we’re in the process of implementing it for our customers.”
