The Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles is now promoting environmentally friendly driving through its Web site, thanks to a New Canaan teenager who championed the cause of green driving.
Katherine Schultz and her father Bob Schultz worked with the DMV to create videos of examples of environmentally friendly driving and then put that information on the state’s Web site.
The information also will be distributed in the state driver’s manual.
“The changes to the driver’s manual will help make all new drivers aware of the ‘green ‘driving tips and make an even bigger difference,” said Katherine Schultz, a student at Greenwich Academy, in a statement.
Tips for environmentally friendly driving include:
- Check the fuel economy and emissions of vehicles when purchasing
- When driving, reduce the use of the brake and acceleration pedals by avoiding hard accelerations
- Reduce idling time
- Unload unnecessary items in a vehicle
- Keep tires properly inflated
- Follow the vehicle’s maintenance schedule
