Connecticut’s diesel tax will increase by 9 cents per gallon on July 1, which marks a 23% hike.
Department of Revenue Services Commissioner Mark Boughton notified legislators of the increase in a letter on Wednesday, according to the Hartford Courant.
“In accordance with this statutory obligation, I am hereby notifying you that, effective July 1, 2022, the tax rate on diesel fuel will be 49.2 cents per gallon,” Boughton wrote.
The change was determined by a formula based on the wholesale cost of diesel. It will bring the diesel tax to 49.2 cents a gallon.
The average price of diesel fuel in Connecticut was $6.17 per gallon on Wednesday, according to AAA. The average price nationally was $5.78.
