CT design firm to update U.S. Capitol dome

Hamden-based Hoffmann Architects has been chosen to design a restoration of the U.S. Capitol dome.

Contract terms were not disclosed.

Hoffman says it spent the past 20 years working with the Architect of the U.S. to investigate the condition of the 176-year-old cast-iron dome.

Last fall, the firm was hired to validate and update the original construction documents.

The structure will be renovated to remove lead paint to updated to current building codes as well as energy and security requirements.
