CT DEP warns of bad air quality on Thursday

State officials are warning that air quality will be unhealthy in parts of Connecticut for people with respiratory diseases as temperatures reach the mid-90s with high humidity, The Associated Press reports.

The Department of Environmental Protection is forecasting bad air quality for Fairfield, New Haven, Middlesex and New London counties until Thursday night. The DEP says a cold front that’s expected to produce thunderstorms Thursday afternoon and evening will bring cooler temperatures that will reduce unhealthy amounts of ground-level ozone by Friday.

Officials say people with asthma and other respiratory diseases should limit prolonged outdoor exertion. The DEP also says state residents can help improve air quality by not using gasoline-powered lawn mowers, taking public transportation or carpooling, avoiding refueling until after dusk and conserving electricity.
