Connecticut Democrats say the General Assembly will vote on a budget Thursday, with or without the backing of the Republican governor.
Senate President Donald Williams says he hopes a last-minute deal can still be reached with Gov. M. Jodi Rell before the month ends, but he’s not certain.
In the meantime, he says the Democrats, who control the legislature, plan to bring out a revised version of their earlier budget which Rell vetoed. As with that proposal, it’s questionable whether Democrats have enough support within their ranks to override a gubernatorial veto given its proposed tax increases.
Democratic leaders made their remarks at another in a series of budget rallies, where parents, teachers and preschoolers were protesting cuts to early childhood programs. (AP)
