CT delays DMV closings a week

Connecticut Motor Vehicles is delaying closing branches by one week to save some $500,000 in costs related to the state’s layoffs, authorities say.

Department of Motor Vehicles said Thursday its scheduled Aug. 11 shutdown of some of its branches has been pushed back to Aug. 19 and 20.

The reason is that Aug. 11 closings would cost the state $500,000, including facility relocation costs, leasing costs, unused vacation and sick time pay-outs to employees, as well as unemployment costs.

The proposed closings affected the full-service branch offices in Enfield, Danbury, Old Saybrook and New Britain. They also involved the Putnam Satellite office as well as the photo license centers in Derby, Middletown and Milford.
