CT delays business tax filings after storm

Connecticut tax collectors are giving businesses hit by the recent storms more time to file certain tax forms and is urging the Internal Revenue Service to do the same.

Connecticut has postponed the due date for affected taxpayers to file Connecticut tax returns that were due on March 15 to April 1. Tax returns for some businesses organized as either Subchapter S corporations or regular corporations were required to be filed with the IRS and DRS on March 15.

Heavy rain and wind struck the southern part of the state the previous weekend, causing major power outages and at least three deaths.

State Department of Revenue Services Commissioner Richard D. Nicholson Monday sent letters to the Treasury and IRS commissioner of Internal Revenue seeking an extension of the filing deadline for certain Connecticut businesses impacted by the severe storms.

“This relief is totally warranted under the circumstances,” Nicholson said.
