CT DEEP’s enviro-cops set up K-9 patrol

Connecticut’s environmental police has set up a canine patrol unit to guard the state’s natural resources and locate missing persons, authorities say.

The state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection’s (DEEP) Environmental Conservation Police (EnCon Police) said four officers and their Labrador retriever partners are now certified in tracking and evidence recovery.

They officially begin patrol Thursday.

DEEP said it obtained three of the dogs from Connecticut Labrador Rescue Inc. in Haddam. Colebrook breeder Michael Case donated the fourth dog, the agency said.

The dogs have been living and riding with their handlers for the past year.
