Connecticut house sales closed out 2014 on a high, rising 2.4 percent in December but median prices finished flat, Realtors say.
Buyers closed last month on 2,514 dwellings vs. 2,454 in December 2013, reports the Connecticut Association of Realtors (CAR), the state’s largest lobby of real estate brokers, agents and related professionals.
Median sales price for houses sold statewide in December dipped 0.8 percent to $245,000 from $247,000 a year earlier. Median indicates that half the homes sold for more and half for less.
December townhouse/condominium sales rose slightly to 643 units, six more sold than in the same month a year earlier, CAR said. Their median price fell slightly in December to $157,250 from $158,000 a year earlier.
“2014 had ups and downs but it ended on a relative high note,” said Meriden broker and CAR President Sandy Maier Schede. “The market is showing signs of righting itself, and new help from the federal government may accelerate the recovery.”
