CT dairy coop eyes commercial market

A cooperative of six eastern Connecticut dairy farms that sells its products in supermarkets has turned its marketing eye to schools and other commercial and institutional customers.

The Farmer’s Cow coop now sells half-pint sizes — or “Calf-Pints” — of its Fresh Connecticut Milk brand. New Milford Hospital is one of its first customers, the coop says.

Managing Partner Robin Chesmer says Calf-Pints are aimed at daycares, hospitals, business cafeterias, colleges and grade schools.

The coop’s six owners are: Hytone Farm in Coventry; Maplelfear Farm in Hebron; Fairvue Farms in Woodstock; Fort Hill Farms in Thompson; Cushman Farms in Franklin; and Graywall Farms in Lebanon.
