The $43.9 million-asset Members Credit Union plans to relocate its headquarters from the Cos Cob section of Greenwich to Stamford.
The credit union, which has 3,658 members, has received permission from the state Department of Banking to relocate its main office from 126 East Putnam Ave., in  Cos Cob, to 612 Bedford St., in Stamford.
The target date for the relocation is Dec. 1, 2023, according to the banking department.
According to its website, Members Credit Union was founded in 1935 by nine Greenwich school teachers who were not able to get small loans at local banks. Today, it offers services to anyone who lives, works, worships or attends school in Fairfield County, the credit union said.Â
The new Stamford location on Bedford Street once housed a Bankwell branch, but the New Canaan-based lender no longer lists that site as part of its footprint.Â
