A Connecticut credit union with roots at Yale New Haven Hospital will be getting a new name.
The New Haven-based Healthcare Financial Credit Union has received state regulatory approval to change its name to Unity Financial Credit Union, according to the Department of Banking.
The credit union has just over 9,500 members and $63.9 million in assets, according to the National Credit Union Administration.
The banking department approved the name change on July 31. It’s not clear when the change will occur.
According to its website, Healthcare Financial Credit Union was founded in 1950 as the Grace New Haven Hospital Employees Federal Credit Union to serve hospital workers. Later, it became the Yale New Haven Hospital Employees Federal Credit Union, and then the Yale New Haven Healthcare Federal Credit Union.
It has locations at Yale New Haven Hospital (20 York St.), Bridgeport Hospital (267 Grant St.) and on Long Wharf Drive and Chapel Street in New Haven.
