Sikorsky Credit Union plans to open a new location in a former TD Bank branch in downtown Fairfield. It bought the building for $2.6 million on Friday, according to the town’s land records.
On May 7, the state Department of Banking approved an application by Stratford-based Sikorsky Credit Union to open a new location in the former TD Bank branch, at 1643 Post Road in Fairfield. The projected opening date is Sept. 1.
TD Bank told federal regulators about a year ago that it planned to close 20 U.S. branches, including the one on Post Road, and another at 2 North St., in Wallingford.
Sikorsky Credit Union purchased the one-story, 2,709-square-foot property from Post Road Fairfield LLC, controlled by Vivien Thorp, of Mountain View, California.
Calls to the credit union were not immediately returned.
The building, which was built in 1972, was appraised at $2.45 million and assessed at $1.72 million in 2024, according to property records.
Sikorsky Credit Union, with $1.3 billion in assets and 66,165 members, has 11 locations in Fairfield and New Haven counties, including a main office at 1000 Oronoque Lane, in Stratford.
