CT corrections commish out after less than one year

After less than one year on the job, state Corrections Commissioner James Dzurenda is leaving his post to oversee jails in New York City’s five boroughs, state officials announced.

Scott Semple, deputy commissioner of operations and rehabilitative services, will take over as acting commissioner. Dzurenda, who has worked in Connecticut government for 27 years, resigns effective Aug. 29.

The announcement comes eight months after Connecticut poached the commissioner of the New York Department of Correction, Dora Schriro, to lead the Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection. Schriro replaced retiring commissioner Reuben Bradford.
