The Connecticut Convention & Sports Bureau said its sales team issued 267 leads, totaling more than 163,000 room nights from July 1 to Dec. 31, 2015. That represents an 18 percent increase year over year.
H. Scott Phelps, bureau president, said in a statement that over the past six months 113 future meetings, conventions and sports events were contracted that should generate over $20 million for the state and local economies.
The bureau said more than 8,200 Connecticut jobs will be supported by these events including lodging, food and beverage, transportation, facility management, audio visual, recreation and security. In addition, $1.6 million in state sales tax will be generated from this spending.
